In the session, students will be involved in discussion and practical exploration through improvisation and scene work exercises. Students will gain a deeper dramaturgical understanding of the relationships within the text, examining the psychology and objectives the characters. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on a range of directorial approaches available to them in their own theatre making as well as those made by Susanna Dowling in the 2015 production. The style, structure and conventions of the play will be addressed within the theoretical framework of the HSC Essay.

"My students were very engaged by the workshop. They found it accessible and the details allowed them to think much more deeply about the themes and characterisation. The handouts provided were exceptional and will really assist them in developing their Experiential Learning paragraphs in their essays. They all came away so enthusiastic and asked to apply the same practical activities to all of our set texts."

Madeleine Sheehy, Winmalee High School

“The film viewing and workshop was a valuable experience for our students. Moments were explored and related to the elements of drama and HSC essay requirements. Anne's warmth and knowledge of the play made students feel very comfortable as they gained self-confidence.”

“After the workshop our students felt more in touch with the text. The activities were well structured; with solid notes they could refer to in their essay responses.”
